Carrimuda -RAF Air Sea Rescue 1272
Carimuda (WW2 RAF Air Sea Rescue Pinnace 1272) is an exceptionally rare 1943 RAF rescue launch built by J. Samuel White & Co. at Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Carimuda is one of only nineteen Special Duty Pinnaces constructed and the sole survivor afloat today.
Her copper‑sheathed mahogany hull and renewed Lloyd’s‑standard deck (2017) make her both structurally sound and historically authentic. Originally stationed at RAF Gibraltar for Air Sea Rescue operations, she later served the Ministry of Civil Aviation at Poole.
Carimuda is a working piece of British naval and aviation history, bridging wartime heritage with modern live‑aboard practicality.
Registered with National Historic Ships UK (No. 3819) and identified as a candidate for National Historic Fleet status, she represents Britain’s Air Sea Rescue legacy at its finest — an operational WW2 vessel retaining original character and craftsmanship.
Now based in London, her copper‑bottomed construction and RAF service make her a tangible symbol of British wartime engineering and maritime heritage.
